About a year ago, I made the switch to GreenGeeks Hosting (yes, it’s an affiliate link, and yes, I’m super proud to be a GreenGeeks affiliate), almost on a whim and somewhat as a trial. The first year of service is a third of what I was paying per month at the time, so I figured why not? If I don’t love it, it was $36 and my development stages will live there. A year later, I’m never looking back.
Consistent Uptime
My sites and dev stages haven’t gone down at all in the year I made the switch to GreenGeeks, and I haven’t had any downtime issues whatsoever. No joke. Honestly, most hosting horror stories I’ve ever heard have centered on downtime and accompanying data loss, and when I switched, I was specifically watching out for both. I’ve worked with a ton of different hosts and at this price-point, this is virtually unheard of.
Price
GreenGeeks is $3.95/month for the first year (paid for the whole year, so a grand total of $35.40), then $9.95/month for each year after that. On top of that, they offer a 30-day money back guarantee, so if you don’t love it, no biggie. They’ll even transfer your existing WordPress site for free.
WordPress Specialists
Being a WordPress designer/developer, this is HUGE for my clients (and for me). Their support team really understands WordPress, they provide advanced brute force protection, they’ll keep your installations updated, and they provide daily backups.
Service
So remember how I mentioned hosting nightmares? Many of them were accompanied by terrible service & support, some of it due to errors in translation from outsourced support teams. GreenGeeks is US-based, which is significant in my book. They’re available 24 hours a day, so time zone isn’t an issue, they have live chat and ticket-based support, and they are just super friendly and knowledgeable.
The Big Difference
My favorite, favorite thing about Green Geeks is that they’re super eco-friendly. Here’s the thing: hosting servers are energy hogs. It takes a lot of power to keep your site up and running, and most companies run on standard electricity, and most energy in the US is generated by fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas, etc.). GreenGeeks is 100% renewable energy-based, to the point that they have a positive carbon footprint. It’s kind of hard to explain how this works, so here’s a super helpful infographic to explain what that means:
In summary…
- $2.95/month for the first year
- Free transfer (or domain!)
- US-based, 24/7 Support
- Carbon-positive footprint
- Superior uptime
- Top-tier site speeds
- Unlimited space & data transfer
- Advanced WordPress security features
Ready to Switch to GreenGeeks?
I honestly can’t recommend GreenGeeks enough, and recommend them for all of my clients. I genuinely feel like our hosting has a positive impact on the world, and if we vote with our dollars, I’m happy to give my dollars to a committed, green business.
